Tala is a contemporary art gallery located in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The space includes a gallery, a library, and an atrium marketplace, offering a new model of gallery format that champions confluence and experimentation across disciplines and programming. Tala’s library is the permanent home of Chuquimarca Art Library.

The name Tala means ‘bright star’ in Tagalog and is derived from the mythology of Tala, the goddess of the morning and evening star, who was revered for her guidance of light during times of loss.

Minor Haromines Closing Reception
Anastasia Sif Karkasiz (new sound iteration)
Mikhail Khoklov (new sound works)
Murat Ahmed (curated record selection)

Join us for the closing event of 𝑀𝒾𝓃𝑜𝓇 𝐻𝒶𝓇𝓂𝑜𝓃𝒾𝑒𝓈, a full day listening session on Saturday November 8, 1-7PM

1-4PM: Anastasia Sif Karkazis
4-5PM: Mikhail Khoklov
5-7PM: Murat Ahmed

If the exhibition began as a dismantling teleology, where meaning lingers in vibration, this final event unfolds as a an echo rather than an ending
Anastasia Sif Karkazis (@shellyexpo) will begin the day by introducing a final iteration of her sound installation 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥 (2025), which will engage the escalation of anti-climax whilst introducing layered appropriations of Glenn Gould’s concertos

Mikhail Khokhlov (@secondindex) will then present new sound work. Pivoting from introductory and resolute formal elements used in music composition, the recorded sound works document a series of mid-point formulations, speculative in-betweens, held in suspension through reduction to vital qualities innate to Sound — spectral and dynamic variation over time. Sound works will be diffused within Tala by two channel reproduction.

Murat Ahmed (@muratoa) will close the evening with a selection of records from his personal collection. The afternoon traces a shared field of resonance across temporal registers.

Refreshments and drinks will be provided 🍷

1-4PM: Anastasia Sif Karkazis

4-5PM: Mikhail Khoklov
